The Performance Advantage

Football Clubs

Better Mindsets. Better Behaviours. Better Performance.

Building better players, stronger teams and a positive culture of high performance.

Great performance doesn’t happen by chance. It develops in an environment where players feel supported, coaches lead with purpose and parents understand the role they play.

The Performance Advantage is an innovative, club-wide development programme designed to help sports clubs build that environment.

Working with players, coaches and parents, we bring together growth mindset, positive behaviours and performance psychology through a series of practical, engaging workshops.

By making small but meaningful changes on the pitch, on the sidelines and at home, we help clubs create a culture where young players can develop, enjoy their sport and reach their full potential.

Beyond Technical Skills. Developing the Whole Player.

Every club wants its young players to succeed. Developing confident, resilient and motivated players takes more than technical skills and training sessions. The language we use, the behaviours we demonstrate and the environment we create all influence how young people learn, respond to challenges and perform.

The Performance Advantage helps clubs move beyond simply talking about a positive culture to actively building one.

Our programme gives everyone practical tools to encourage growth, strengthen relationships and support performance, both on and off the pitch.

One Club. Three Key Groups. A Shared Approach to Performance.

The Performance Advantage is built around three interconnected development streams, recognising that everyone involved in a young player’s sporting journey has a role to play.

01 | For Parents

Supporting children to thrive on and off the pitch.

Parents play an essential role in shaping their child’s sporting experience. Their words, actions and reactions can influence confidence, motivation and enjoyment. Our engaging workshops provide parents with practical insights and techniques to positively support their child’s development, helping them understand how everyday behaviours contribute to a healthy, encouraging and supportive sporting environment.

Parents explore:

  • Understanding their role in their child’s development.
  • Encouraging effort, learning and progress over results.
  • Using positive language and constructive praise effectively.
  • Modelling supportive behaviours on the sidelines.
  • Building confidence, resilience and emotional regulation.

02 | For Coaches & Club Leaders

Creating an environment where players can thrive.

Coaches play a vital role in shaping team culture. Their language, actions and leadership directly influence how young players learn, develop and perform. Our practical workshops provide coaches with the tools and techniques to encourage positive behaviours, strengthen communication and create an environment that supports confidence, development and sustained performance.

Coaches explore:

  • Cultivating a winning mindset using evidence-based tools
  • Understanding how language and feedback shape mindset.
  • Modelling behaviours that encourage player development.
  • Prioritising effort, learning and continuous improvement.
  • Applying performance psychology and positive coaching techniques.

03 | For Players

Developing confident, resilient young athletes.

Through fun, interactive and game-based sessions, young players explore how their mindset, behaviours and teamwork influence their development and performance. Our approach focuses on learning through play, using practical activities and team challenges to build confidence, encourage growth and develop essential skills both on and off the pitch.

Players explore:

  • Developing a growth mindset and embracing challenges.
  • Building confidence, resilience and greater self-awareness.
  • Understanding teamwork, trust and positive collaboration.
  • Responding constructively to mistakes and setbacks.
  • Developing behaviours that support individual and team performance.

The Performance Advantage in Action

Working with St Joseph’s AFC

We are currently delivering The Performance Advantage with St Joseph’s AFC (Joeys), bringing the programme to players, coaches and parents as part of the club’s commitment to creating a positive, high-performing environment.

The programme has been developed to align with the club’s own vision and values, reinforcing a shared approach to learning, inclusion, teamwork, ambition and fair play.

Through practical workshops and engaging activities, we are helping the wider club community explore how mindset, language and everyday behaviours can positively influence young players.

By partnering with Hugh and Clarity Coach.ie we have certainly set a solid platform for positive change regarding the Culture of the Club relating to the behaviours and attitudes of key stakeholders; starting with players parents. The next two cohorts of leaders and players will square the circle and give the culture change every chance to succeed as the three key links in the chain will have clarity as to what is required and not required to achieve the equilibrium of High Performance and Respect for all involved. The programme will be of great benefit to all clubs who seek to improve the behaviours of key stakeholders involved, ensuring a safe and healthy engagement for all players and officials of home and visiting teams to perform at their best in a supportive and encouraging environment. This programme provides very practical support to the role of the Behaviour Development Officers (BDO’s) at each club by reenforcing positive behaviours and tackling incidents that are counter to the enjoyment of the game by all involved.

I thought the discussions with the parents were very insightful. The very fact that we held the sessions for them shows we want to bring them along with us. It gave those that attended a greater understanding of the challenges and of how they can help in overcoming some of those challenges. We are all seeking the same goal which is basically that the players have an enjoyable experience through football and by sharing our experiences and knowledge we now can reach that goal in a way that we had not considered previously.

I thought it was such a progressive and badly needed programme for the club. The presenter, Hugh, had a great balance in his delivery and the material seemed to meet us parents (and coaches also perhaps) where we are at. Sharing these messages on e.g. Tactical Breathing, Gratitude, The Inner Game etc with more/all parents and coaches over and over again will help, in time, to hopefully allow young people learn these things mainly by example. This programme can only be a positive thing for performance in football overall and the community in general.
